Thusnelda Mercy  




Was born in Marseille, France, and grew up in Wuppertal, Germany. She began her artistic career as a dancer and actress at the Theater der Klänge in Düsseldorf, before continuing her dance studies at the of Folkwang University der Künste in Essen, where she graduated with a degree in contemporary dance. In 2002, she joined the company of choreographer Sasha Waltz, with whom she regularly collaborates as a guest performer and rehearsal director. That same year, she became a permanent member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, where she danced until 2013, then continued as a guest until 2019. Alongside her work as a dancer, she also assisted Pina Bausch in her creations. Throughout her career, Thusnelda Mercy has collaborated with many renowned choreographers such as Carolyn Carlson, Kuo-Chu Wu, Mark Sieczkarek, the Fabien Prioville Dance Company, and Alexandra Waierstall. She also works as a rehearsal director for the Pina Bausch Foundation, participating in the reconstruction of major works such as The Rite of Spring, Iphigenia in Tauris, and Orpheus and Eurydice, in partnership with major international companies such as Opera National de Paris, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, and Deutsche Oper Berlin. A committed teacher, she teaches at renowned festivals and institutions in Germany and internationally, and also creates choreographies for professional companies and international schools. In 2015, she founded the artistic duo merighi | mercy with choreographer and dancer Pascal Merighi. After multiple creations at Sadler's Wells and in Italy (Venice/Palermo/Stresa/etc.), among other places, in 2020 they created Tanz Station – Barmer Bahnhof in Wuppertal: a venue dedicated to dance, interdisciplinary collaboration, artist residencies, discussion formats, group exhibitions, and co-creation projects.
