Gregory Livingston



Gregory Livingston’s career has always ran two tracks – performance and education. From 2020-2022 he taught as a guest professor and artistic employee in the Bachelor programme – Dance, Context, Choreography at the Inter-University Centre for Dance (HZT) Berlin/ University of Arts (UdK). As part of the HZT, he also participated in the 8th Biennale Tanzausbildung Stuttgart 2022. In spring 2020, he received a work grant from the Hessische Kulturstiftung within the framework of the program “reopening Hessen culturally.” His performative format with Q&A “When Angels Travel the Sun Shines,” was in collaboration with the Agaplesion Haus Samaria Hospice in Giessen.

Gregory has performed with world acclaimed dance companies in Asia, Europe and the USA. In 2019, he joined Punchdrunk International as a performer in “Sleep No More” Shanghai. In 2011, he returned full circle and home to New York City, as a guest artist with the José Limón Dance Company for two seasons. Prior to that he danced for Ismael Ivo “Illuminata”/ Brazil, Bolzano, Venice; for Claire Russ/UK; in Germany for Jean Renshaw, Roberto Galvan – Stadttheater Giessen, and Joseph Tmim – Tolada Berlin; and started his career with the City Contemporary Dance Company of Hong Kong.

As the European Liaison of the New York Institute of Dance & Education (NYIDE), and Executive, Foundational Faculty of the New York Dance Festival (NYDF) summer intensive, Gregory assists NYIDE in the movement study certification for teachers and dancers from around the globe.

He has received his M.A. Contemporary Dance Education in 2014 from the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) Germany, his B.F.A. in Dance from the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance (NY,USA) and a 4-year classical vocal music education from Fiorello H. LaGuardia H.S. of Music & Art and Performing Arts. Gregory also holds a Shiatsu Practitioner Diploma from the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, California.

Gregory has taught for several international arts universities either as a visiting professor or guest lecturer. His teaching also extends to other professional arts institutions throughout Europe and in the USA. Gregory has also collaborated with several German theatres, professional companies and conferences. He has directed and assisted productions in dance and opera, choreographing the opera “Carmen” at Staatstheater Wiesbaden and at Theater Erfurt, the “New Year’s Concert.” In Erfurt. Gregory was the choreographic assistant for Jean Renshaw’s dance ensemble and the operatic assistant for “Aida,” under the stage direction of Dieter Kaegi. As Interim Director for the Folkhögskola Härnösand; Danslinje, Gregory was engaged to teach and choreograph. He also directed and restaged works for the Bodhi Project at SEAD.

Gregory has led and facilitated youth initiatives and dance presentations in collaboration with Joblinge gAG, the Crespo Foundation and in 2016, the Battery Dance(NYC) intercultural project, “Dancing to Connect Refugees” collaborating with the Theodor- Heuss-Schule in Frankfurt. Since 2007, as an ongoing guest at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm/Tanzplattform Rhein-Main in Frankfurt, Gregory has taught the Professional Training classes and also has directed Dance in School projects for their Tanzlabor_21and later became part of the Directing Team for The Forsythe Company Education Program in collaboration with the Altana Kulturstiftung.
